  • Brazil Santos — labeled bag

    Brazil Santos

    Brazil — Sul de Minas

    Natural process

    Medium roast

    Mandarin Orange, Chocolate

Explore this coffee: Piper covers its journey; Dr. Roast helps you brew it. Open a section below.

    Piper’s Field Notes

A little inland adventure. Brazil Santos comes from Sul de Minas, in Minas Gerais, where small producers farm the rolling hills at 950–1,100 meters. The Rio scene on our label is a travel illustration; the coffee grows inland. The bean took the agricultural route. Il Maestro took the scenic one.

What does “natural process” mean? The coffee seed dries inside its whole fruit before the dried fruit is removed. That stage helps shape the cup’s character. Here, the supplier describes a smooth body, medium acidity, and chocolate and mandarin-orange notes. Think a smooth feel with a citrus accent—not orange juice, and not added chocolate.

A stop worth knowing. Southern Minas has coffee routes through São Lourenço, Carmo de Minas, and Varginha, where visitors can explore historic properties and drying patios. That is regional context, rather than a claim that your bag came from a particular tourist farm.

    Dr. Roast’s Brew Lab

Chocolate and mandarin orange? Nobody smuggled a fruit basket into the roaster. Tasting notes describe flavors and aromas a coffee reminds tasters of. Brazil Santos is unflavored coffee; those notes are clues to explore, not added ingredients or a promise every sip will taste identical.

Start with your everyday brewer. Choose Drip Ground for a drip machine, or Whole Bean if you grind at home. For a measured starting point, try 20 grams of coffee with 320 grams of water, then adjust to your taste. That is a brew suggestion, not this coffee’s secret recipe. Keep your first cup simple so you can find out what you enjoy.

Meet the cup halfway. “Body” means how it feels in your mouth; “acidity” is the bright, lively side of its flavor. Smooth body and medium acidity give you two things to look for. Taste once hot and again as it cools. No tasting exam. No one is grading your eyebrows.

    Meet the simple brewers

Drip: Water passes through grounds and a filter. Your existing machine is a useful place to start.

French press: Grounds steep in water, then a metal filter separates them. More oils and fine particles remain, giving a fuller texture. Use a coarse grind.

Chemex: A manual pour over brewer with a paper filter that catches oils and fine particles. Try it if you enjoy a clearer texture. Use a medium coarse grind.

AeroPress: A small manual brewer where coffee steeps before gentle pressing through a filter. Follow the recipe for your model. It is different from an espresso machine.

A scale and timer: Measuring coffee and water by weight, and keeping track of time, helps you repeat a cup you enjoyed. Change one thing at a time. A better routine can come before another purchase.

    Visit Coffee Gear

    Count the Beans

How much coffee is in the bag? At 20 grams per brew, 12 oz (340 g) makes about 17 brews, 1 lb (454 g) about 22, and 2 lb (907 g) about 45. Each brew in this example uses 320 g of water—roughly an 11 fl oz serving before water retained by the grounds. Mug size and recipe change the count.

Bigger bag, lower price per pound. Current one-time Brazil prices are $25.99 for 12 oz, $33.99 for 1 lb, and $59.99 for 2 lb. That is about $34.65, $33.99, and $30.00 per pound respectively. The 2 lb bag saves $7.99 versus two 1 lb bags, before any tax or shipping. Subscription pricing appears separately on the product page.

Buy for your routine. A larger bag makes sense if you will use it; a smaller one is a useful first visit. Your cupboard does not need a strategic coffee reserve.
