Piper: discover what you enjoy
Start with a sip on its own. Try a splash of milk in a second small cup and compare the two. Your favorite version is the useful answer. Explore the Discovery Center.
Dr. Roast: use the brewer you have
Make a cup with your familiar coffee amount and method before changing anything. Whole Bean lets you grind at home; Drip Ground is the straightforward choice for a drip brewer. Both ideas below start with ordinary brewed coffee. Visit Dr. Roast in the Beverage Lab.
Two ways to make a moment of it
Cozy cocoa mug: Mix 1 teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa with 1 tablespoon of hot brewed Mocha until smooth. Stir in the rest of a 6 oz cup, then add 2 oz of warm milk of your choice. Sweeten to taste. No special machine required; a spoon has finally found its calling.
Iced mocha shaker: Pour 4 oz of cooled brewed Mocha and 2 oz of your preferred milk into a lidded jar. Add a little chocolate syrup if you like, close the lid and shake. Pour over ice. Use cooled coffee for shaking; enjoy a hot cup directly in a mug.
These are optional serving ideas. Adjust additions to your taste and check the ingredients of any milk, cocoa or syrup you use.

Dr. Roast’s Brew Lab
Drip Ground for a coffee maker, or Whole Bean if you grind at home. Taste before milk, then compare with a small splash. A paper filter gives a cleaner cup; a coarse French press a fuller one.

Meet the simple brewers
Drip: Water passes through grounds and a filter. Your existing machine is a useful place to start.
French press: Grounds steep in water, then a metal filter separates them. More oils and fine particles remain, giving a fuller texture. Use a coarse grind.
Chemex: A manual pour over brewer with a paper filter that catches oils and fine particles. Try it if you enjoy a clearer texture. Use a medium coarse grind.
AeroPress: A small manual brewer where coffee steeps before gentle pressing through a filter. Follow the recipe for your model. It is different from an espresso machine.
A scale and timer: Measuring coffee and water by weight, and keeping track of time, helps you repeat a cup you enjoyed. Change one thing at a time. A better routine can come before another purchase.
Count the Beans
Compare the bag sizes below using the same brewing example. A larger bag is better value per brew only when its price per gram is lower and it fits how quickly you use your coffee.
Standard shipping is included within all 50 U.S. states. Taxes are calculated at checkout.
Example: 20 g coffee with 320 g water per brew. Estimated cost is the bag price divided by its net coffee weight, multiplied by 20 g. Your mug size and recipe change the yield; this is not a guaranteed cup count. Milk and other additions are separate.
| Bag size | Bag | Per brew |
|---|---|---|
| 12 oz | $25.99 | $1.53 |
| 1 lb | $34.99 | $1.54 |
| 2 lb | $61.99 | $1.37 |
